1941 is where it begins, a legacy is born and I am from him. You must take heed to the words that I say; whether you like it or not, it’s that way. These are the ballads of Don Gordon J. One the things I remember the most, Bros got the tea and they also got toast, tend to the wood stove- my sisters would stay, cleaning the house as I'm sent off to play. Outside in Perth on a cold winters day Frozen Pines. River Ice. Forty five below zero. Back after our lunch we huddled and sang, in a snow shelter- that dinner bell rang. Mother I love you; the meal on my plate, but summer is here and I’ll be out till late. Jump off the train bridge, the water I go. Shallow or not I cling tight to the rope, dodging the boulders that lurk just below Father is someone that I held so dear; provided 12 children with love and no fear. 800 miles with no feel of dismay. I knew his heart would not lead us astray; Working his hardest ‘til he passed away. Roses, white. Rope burns bright. Eighteen years I’ve been livin'. My time is up and here I can not stay, "go west young man" my dear mother would say ("Go west young man, go west.")

Thumbs out on the highway with my good friend Jim, trying to make our way out to Hamilton. Finally got a ride; Eldorado. Driver was so drunk, he barely on the road. Swerved into the tavern to grab another whiskey, Jim and I bailed cause the shit was way too risky. Roll baby Roll. We gotta Roll Baby Roll. Roll baby roll. We gotta roll baby roll. We gotta roll to Ontario to find a career,mMeet some pretty ladies and we’ll have a couple beer Workin at Drummond-McCall shipping. Barely got by but it’s a honest livin'. Enough to buy some beers on a Friday night, headed to some dances looking for a fight. Hey pretty lady, what’s happenin’? You got me shook up like rattlesnake a rattlin’

As time went on I began to yearn for the western world; my desires burned. Hitchhiking to my dreams, I long sought after; Alberta bound to the town of Jasper.   How I’ll miss the mountains, snow covered mountains. A stint as Chef Gordon Johnson Before long I was tossing a coin, heads or tails will decide; Cali sunshine or east I rejoin, on the train I will ride How I’ll miss the mountains, east bound I went; Royal Hotel, In love I fell Married up, settled down with two kids with a nurse from Ireland. Then again a new chapter begins; headed to St. Stephen How I miss the mountains, Saint John business man Like the reversing falls on the Wolastoaq River, my business took a turn and my love withered. And just when I thought love was done for old Gordon Don, the tides had changed at the Marina Saint John.

SWEET JOANNE 01:58
Workin' the Marina on a Friday night, she walked in, oh what a sight; that short skirt and those black boots knee high tall. She tellin' me she’s lookin for a job; very next day working at bar. Sweet Joanne, sweet Joanne. Very next day we took a boat ride, didn’t see it coming when the motor died. Time to shine; be the hero to save us all. ("I'll save us".) Jumped in, found out I couldn’t really swim; that nasty river John, he sucked me in. Sweet Joanne, sweet Joanne Working with my Sweet on Monday night, Old man lookin for moosehead light. Tipped 5 cents And then said thank you doll. ("Thank you doll") Sweet Joanne she took that nickle tip, whipped in his drink as he took a sip Sweet Joanne, sweet Joanne Left that bar and started new; a Floral shop with just us two, selling roses to the desperate men that call ("I'll take one hundred") That sweet Joanne she’s sweeter than them all; the kind you wanna spend with all night long. Sweet Joanne, sweet Joanne.

CHARACTER 02:22
As I am comin round the bend, I ponder bout the days When faced upon My younger self, I turned to look away. Just roll on by, trust what’s inside, fall off some ladders that you will climb. Live no regrets, Find your way west, go on you’ll make it back fine Character, it’s makes a man reliable and true. Be honest of opinions, if you want to pursue You’ll on float on by, flow with the tide, current will carry the way that’s right . Hold Joanne tight; the love of your life. 83 and yet to say… “Goodbye”
